Infrastructure Design (WP2)

This work package performs the analysis and design tasks required for developing the infrastructure for processing and visualisation. Specifically, this work package's goals are to:

  • Perform an in-depth analysis of current spatial data processing architectures, testing different algorithms for their suitability to be executed with large and very large data sets;
  • Design the components and interfaces of the IQmulus processing framework;
  • Design the processing domain-specific languages.

Task 2.1: In-depth framework evaluation (Lead: MOSS, Contributors: ALL involved in this WP)

In this task, existing frameworks and implementations are evaluated with respect to their suitability to the execution of different processing tasks under different constraints, such as the access method to data, the structure and the volume of the data to be used.

Task 2.2: Design of architecture and interfaces (Lead: Fraunhofer)

The result of this task is a multi-part architectural document with one part providing an overview and with the other parts describing the components and their responsibilities, as well as the specific interfaces together with the allowed encodings for each of these components. These specifications will be released in a short cycle to prevent prolonged design paralysis.

Task 2.3: Processing DSL Framework (Lead: Fraunhofer, Contributors: ALL involved in this WP)

These include different processing tasks in different application domains from the two testbeds – ranging from emergency preparedness to marine spatial planning. On this basis, a basic syntax and a common vocabulary will be drafted, with profiles being generated for the individual domains. In parallel, the tooling for developing of the DSLs will be defined, configured or implemented as needed. The DSLs themselves aill be improved by continuous evaluation through project-internal users.
